The issue is that no matter how big the accelerated start boost is, new accounts will never stack up against the existing accounts on a server. The only conceivable way to make it work is if the new players massively outnumbered the existing players. But, in theory, anything at this point that help...

Why just tech? Why not fleet as well? Also how about structures and defenses? Averages are not good to go by. Standard Deviation would be a much better value to go off of. Yeah, there have been a lot of idea long those lines over the years. The problem with a lot of them is they kind of leave players on older servers in the lurch after having focused years of effort on buildling up specific astro types. Edit: research using tech credits (not regular credits) only requires a level 1 research lab. It's funny because most of the servers in this game are dead. There is little real combat between active players and basically just a big simfest. I'd rather see it made harder to hide credits, than easier. Increases potential rewards for the risk of attacking higher level players and might make it more worthwhile for higher level players/guilds to build more defenses.
