Logan: Stand-up Philosopher

Postby Logans Run » Fri 13 Apr, 2018 00:13

Basically what i mean is: Do you believe in "some sort" of afterlife or not? I dont expect many to comment. Or be surprised if any do.
There is a fear in letting your beliefs know..i get that.

There is a strong..or, semi-strong case to say we once all lived in the sea.
There is also a strong case that the Earth was formed from violent collisions from in and around our galaxy. That perhaps even the moon was once a part of Earth.
Recently i saw a documentary about the Russians..how they were the first to map the dark side of the moon. They found it has a huge crusty layer. Which led many scientist to believe it once collided with the Earth, and then took away part of that impact. A heavy layer it kept, now hidden from view.

So the beginning of the bible talks about Earth being formed in 7 days.
Well..we know thats not right. At least as far as a human day is conserned. Right?
Anyways, im no expert on the old teztimate. Most i've done is skip around a bit..reading here or there. The parts i 'sorta' remember..i cant help but think to myself, "Really? God wanted this group of ppl to go over yonder to kill that group of ppl so they could claim thier lands?"

The old teztiment (basically the Jews belief i hear), is a very hard read from the start to finish. Ya gotta get thru a LOT of this person begot that person..who begot that person..and she had 5 sons..(was she Mexican?)
Etc..etc.

The New teztiment is a easier read. And ive read it thru about..3ish times in my life. Im not gonna say, "yeah..this is all true", but i will say it rings of truth. Meaning, when Jesus spoke..it makes sense.
(If you understand the parables..which are almost always explained)

But then you have all the other religions of the world. Which i have no experience on. Thou one time, i stayed in this motel and they had a Buddist book. I thought wow, never seen one..i gotta read a bit.
I cant really even recall much of those 5-7 pages i read. Talked about some lady with 6(?) arms and...all i remember is laughing about it.

Meh...religion. Its a tough sell. Especially for me. See, i KNOW a God exist..from a personal... intervention by "him", "it" at a young age.
Something i dont really want to share about. Cuz, it wont change what you believe.

So my beliefs to date are: Yes, there is a "God" type of being out there.
And..we are here to learn lessons..struggle, see if we overcome or not.
Kinda like a game, if you will.

Now.. atheist. They trip me out a lil. I often wonder if they are more apt to commit suicide..or be more happy..succesful..etc.
I'll have to see if a poll was ever conducted before posting this..
Ok, im bored.
But even if you ARE an athiest (or Buddist etc), i dont believe your going to be somehow punished for being that way..such as the bible might suggest.

So see what i mean? Im like a person stuck between both camps.
...kinda blows!
Meh..im not too worried about it.

Yeah i know..im weird. (Holy crap this was long!)

Edit: didnt find a happiness meter on athiest (didnt try hard), but pew did a good study on them.

Maybe your from India and think God is a big fat cow! Thats cool too..let us know.

Which means your too scared to even offer an opinion on "anything" anymore.
The fact that you have power in OG makes me and others not even want to post here anymore.

Loosen up a lil, Francis..ffs.

Following the law of conservation we may well be 'recycled' in some form or other.

Does that count as an afterlife? Its enough for me.

Long time CLS trade donkey.

6 arms = weird.

Invisible sky daddy has a list of ten things he doesn't want you to do = totally normal.

I can also attest to God being real, I’ve been moved more than once after asking for guidance, enough times that it cannot be purely coincidence at this point.

Also, it is not (in my opinion) the job of humans to condemn people. That job is for God. We can educate people on the error of their ways, but we are not here to judge.

I do believe in the afterlife, but not the traditional heaven architect we’ve been given. I think it’s more along the lines of ‘The Five People You Meet In Heaven’ (movie).

Anywho, that’s what I’ve got.

Side note: I’ve known atheists that are some of the happiest people, happiness isn’t begotten from having religion.

also my 2cents on religion: i think it is great if it works for you to keep you happier than you would be otherwise. also it helps some people find the structure they need to get past something and recover. i try not to be too judgemental. i apply myself be a respectful person just because it is nice to get the same in return, although that is not always reflected in forums.

But really..are those 10 things bad NOT to do obey? I mean..are they unjustly called out?
Anyways..i think that was the first book. Im on the fence there.

I think its more along the lines of Defending your Life. (Movie)

That pew study showed athiest tend to be liberal..who tend to be less happy then thier counterparts. Thou also, athiest tend to be more educated. (scientist are often athiest for example)
But having a diploma of some type doesnt give you more of an Authority on the subject.

Usually yes. Though there are a lot of subject taught in school that are useless.

And there are things taught in the real world that will make you more valuble then a person fresh out of college.

College degee does not = wise.

Okay. Six arms = weird. God magically impregnates a virgin so that she can give birth to the god who impregnated her for the purpose of dying and taking on the sin of all humanity and then intercede on humanity's behalf to convince himself to let any human who asks god for help convincing god to help them to get into a magical land where god wants everyone to be but only if they ask god to take on their sin through dying so that god can tell god to let them in = totally normal.

Yeah man. That dude Jebus totally died for our sins man. Well ... three days later he came back like nothing happened, to have one last plate of spaghetti with his buddies -known as the last spaghetti meal- and then he totally just went to heaven man. It's true, I swear.

I'm an atheist. And the six-armed deity is Hindu, not Buddhist.
