NASA Tribute (Press Release)
The following is a statement from acting NASA Administrator Robert Lightfoot on the passing of visionary physicist Stephen Hawking, who died at his home in Cambridge, England, early Wednesday morning.

“Today, the world lost a giant among men, whose impact cannot be overstated. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Stephen Hawking.

“Stephen’s breakthroughs in the fields of physics and astronomy not only changed how we view the cosmos, but also has played, and will continue to play, a pivotal role in shaping NASA’s efforts to explore our solar system and beyond.

“Along with groundbreaking and inspiring work came another attribute that made Stephen a hero not just to younger generations, but also to his peers. A longtime friend to NASA, Stephen was a passionate communicator who wanted to share the excitement of discovery with all.

“His loss is felt around the world by all he inspired with his work and his personal story of perseverance.”
Albert Einstein was born on 14th March, and died aged 76..

Hawking died on 14th March, aged 76..

Pi is 3.14

(aka 14th March in American dates)

I think that's the most bizarre case of synchronicity I've seen

Etc, etc..
Very nice tribute.

Ive learned a lot about Steven over the past 2 years.
From a friend who knows him peraonally, who also played AE. That person came to AE because i brought his late uncle here back when Fenix was new.
Nerd Network Thread (i know..kinda lame) is the direct result of my friend who knew and met Steven a few times. He would tell me what was going on with the latest space discoveries. I think Steven was even mentioned in the thread somewhere as the two would have friendly arguements about our Black Hole.

While yes its sad when someone as great as him dies, i do have to smile a lil. You see, Steven was an Athiest. ..and i knew something Steven didnt know. And now he does.

Anyways..nice tribute, Death Smurf

The dead celebrity repository thread

Postby Baal » Mon 16 Apr, 2018 00:24

That I report the passing of the legend Sgt Gunny R Lee Ermey given this mans history I felt like he deserves his own thread (I don't, Richelieu. This thread is for everyone else in the world, inc Stephen Hawking, so Ermey has good company)..

Statement from R. Lee Ermey's long time manager, Bill Rogin:
It is with deep sadness that I regret to inform you all that R. Lee Ermey ("The Gunny") passed away this morning from complications of pneumonia. He will be greatly missed by all of us. It is a terrible loss that nobody was prepared for. He has meant so much to so many people. And, it is extremely difficult to truly quantify all of the great things this man has selflessly done for, and on behalf of, our many men and women in uniform. He has also contributed many iconic and indelible characters on film that will live on forever. Gunnery Sergeant Hartman of Full Metal Jacket fame was a hard and principled man. The real R. Lee Ermey was a family man, and a kind and gentle soul. He was generous to everyone around him. And, he especially cared deeply for others in need.

There is a quote made famous in Full Metal Jacket. It's actually the Riflemen's Creed. "This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine."

There are many Gunny's, but this one was OURS. And, we will honor his memory with hope and kindness. Please support your men and women in uniform. That's what he wanted most of all.
all I've got to say is Semper Fi, Gunny. Godspeed hope to see you at those pearly gates just don't smoke me I got enough of that in basic

Chester Bennington, from Linkin Park. My childhood takes yet another blow.
You posted in this thread less than eight hours after I posted about Chester.
