Our Solar System

Postby Sinner_D » Tue 26 Jun, 2007 04:48

ok heres the deal, i am currently working on a project of monumental size...our solar system, currently i have all 9 planets (size/orbit from sun) aswell as the sun, on a 100,000th scale model. currently earth is fairly detailed with a hi resolution global texture and cloud cover that will be active...im not sure why im telling you guys this, i guess just to get some constructive critisism and any ideas that might brighten up our stuff.

heres some pix, remember its not too much complete, really only worked on the size/relative orbit of each planet to the sun, aswell as the orbit of earths moon in relation to earth. nothing is animated yet, that will be way far off in this project but hey its a start. anways heres some pix.

Image
this is a very very far away shot, of course due to photobucket the resolution of the picture is off, so you cant acually see the planets, however trust me they ARE there, once i get my FTP access back ill upload the full resolution images so you can see.

Image
here is a relatively far away shot of the planet earth and its moon, just to give you an idea of the scale size...that dim sphere just right of the earth is our moon of course, its shadowed because of its relation to the sun(currently has earth between it and the sun).

Image
here is a much closer look at planet earth and its moon as you can see your getting a view of the northern hemisphere just over africa(fairly dim) and south america and north america just to the left.

Image
and here is a pretty close up view of planet earth, hovering over north america or Southern California to be more exact, and yes that white dot is where San Diego, California is, just incase you didnt already know. :D

Image
ok and last but certainly not least, this is a picture to give you somewhat an idea of the relative size of the planets, only the first 3 planets are visable from that perspective, however they are all there :D
on the left you have of course the sun(that big orange thingy) and then mercury, venus, and our main discussion piece of the day, earth. and on the right, is the very same "earth" from the left picture, however i zoomed in so you could tell that it is infact really earth.

so anyways, i hope you guys like, and i will try to keep things posted as i make them :D

yes yes yes, i agree completely, i am a lunatic and it is alot of work...lol

i dont know how long it will take, however with the current single frame rendering times at about 2minutes, and i have no idea how many frames there will be, i know it takes the earth 365 days to orbit the sun, so im looking sofar at atleast 365 frames inorder to do that, so... yah, the rendering of the movie alone is going to take hours already, add in some alien space craft some nuclear explosions, uhh possibley a earth bound view of aliens landing or whatnot( which will be a whole new set) yah i guess you could say its alot of work...hahaha

but hey, how many people can say they have a 100,000th scale model of our solar system on there computer...none that i know of...if you know anyone, let me know, save me alot of work...lol

i do plan on keeping updated pictures of my progress as i go, of course ill only show parts, and only when something concrete is new to show. youll have to wait to see the finished product, ill put it up on the guild website when i get done making that...lol

LOL

well guys sorry but nothing new to report, ive run into a bit of a snag...if anyone knows or can find a website that accurately depicts the following that would be GREAT!!!
  • * details on earth moon orbit and axis tilt
    * details on earths axis tilt
    * details on orbital speeds(ex. earth orbital speed 365 days) all planets?
    * all planets axis tilts and rotation speeds
    * does the sun rotate?
    * does the earth moon rotate in the same direction as the earth?
as you can see, i didnt pay too much attention in middle school...lol

so if any of you know any of the above, and please be honest, if you dont know i thank you for not telling me wrong specifications. Thanks and wish me luck...lol i only got like 4 more days to beat god record...come on guys.

I think that the earth is tilted 5º
I'm almost sure of that.

1.average centre-to-centre distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,403 kilometres
The Moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth every 27.3 days
Average Orbital Speed: 1.022 km/s
Tilt: 5.145°

2.23.5°

3.Orbital Speed:
Mercury: 47.36 km/s
Venus: 35.02 km/s
Earth: 29.783 km/s
Mars: 24.077 km/s
Jupiter: 13.07 km/s
Saturn: 9.638 km/s
Uranus: 6.795 km/s
Neptune: 5.432 km/s

4. Rotation Speeds and Tilts

Mercury:
Tilt: 7.004 87°
Rotation Speed: ?

Venus:
Tilt: 3.394 71°
Rotation: ?

Earth:
Tilt: 5.145°
Rotation: ?

Mars:
Tilt: 1.850 61°
Rotation: ?

Jupiter:
Tilt: 1.305 30°
Rotation: ?

Saturn:
Tilt: 2.484 46°
Rotation: ?

Uranus:
Tilt: 0.769 86°
Rotation: ?

Neptune:
Tilt: 1.769 17°
Rotation: ?

5. Yes The Sun does rotate
It does so at 7,174 km/h

6. Yes I'm fairly sure it does, But the Earth rotates faster than the Moon Orbits

I hope this is useful
:D .
