[Wulf]

The looming city skyline edged out of existence as Carter looked through the rifle's scope. The target swelled into view, sitting calmly in his office, unaware of his own impending assassination. That was just fine, in Carter's opinion. It made his job considerably easier. It was the paranoid types that complicated things.
He lined up his shot carefully, accounting for distance and wind. The company he worked for had supplied him with a single-shot rifle; missing was out of the question. Just as he readied himself to squeeze the trigger, the target stood up and walked to the plate-glass window, rubbing his bald head. Carter adjusted himself with the seasoned skill of a professional, the man's gleaming scalp coming into view, and then his eyes, staring directly into the scope. The man smiled, and Carter felt a chill run up his spine.
The man knew the score, all right. Carter would have bet a month's salary on it. It occurred to him that perhaps on another rooftop, someone was watching him through their own scope. Assassinating an assassin. The thought would have made Carter smile, but it's hard to smile while having a high-powered weapon pointed at your skull.
These thoughts ran through his brain in moments, as did a contingency plan. One did not go into the assassination business without the ability to think quickly and adapt. Well, not for very long. He took a deep breath, letting it out slowly and squeezing the trigger. He rolled to his left immediately, hoping to whatever cosmic being would listen that he wouldn't get shot.
A hole the size of his hand exploded on the roof where he had been a split second before. He cursed, scrambling across the top of the building. He needed to get down, quickly. Damn it, he hated complicated jobs.
