[TUTORIAL] Graphics Pack on Ubuntu/Linux

Works for firefox-3.5 and firefox-3.0

Finally pulled this on out , been working on this for a long time and now it works

Open the terminal and paste:

cd /usr/lib/firefox-3.5.3/defaults/preferences

change "firefox-3.5.3" to your firefox version.

Open the firefox.js with sudo:

sudo gedit firefox.js

and now paste this:

pref("capability.policy.policynames","local_astroempires");

pref("capability.policy.local_astroempires.sites","images.astroempires.com cdn.astroempires.com astroempires.com alpha.astroempires.com beta.astroempires.com ceti.astroempires.com delta.astroempires.com epsilon.astroempires.com fenix.astroempires.com gamma.astroempires.com");

pref("capability.policy.local_astroempires.checkloaduri.enabled","allAccess");

pref("capability.policy.local_astroempires.fileuri.strict_origin_policy","allAccess");

and restart firefox.

Now go to the account>display page of AE: display
and place the location of your files, in my case i used the Home folder

css file: home/"user_name"/AE/Deepest_Space/style.css
Local path: home/"user_name"/AE/Deepest_Space/

Make sure you have "GRAPHICS PACK" selected on the Appearence box.

It should be working now

NOTES:
I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackelope with the last kernel update, not sure if it works on other Distros
for other firefox versions please go to /usr/lib and seach for the folder with your version, the files should be the same.
I'm not a Linux Geek (yet) but i wil try to help you the best way i can.

I've had graphics packs working in Ubuntu for a while. I don't completely remember how I did it off the top of my head, but that looks right.

A couple of problems. I am using ubuntu (up to date as of 10min ago) and I am having a couple of problems. First, the command prompt line wouldnt work so I had to go diving through my system to find it (for me under ect/firefox-3.0/pref). The main problem though is that when I opened the .js file and pasted the code into it it told me I didnt have permission to edit it. Looking under permissions it says its owned by root and it wont let me change anything.

Any ideas?

try tgis on the terminal:

cd /ect/firefox-3.0/pref

the paste sudo gedit firefox.js

this works cause you are opening it with the Admin account, normal way won't work

Another path is:

Click Alt+F2 and paste "gksu nautillus"

then you can browse to /ect/firefox-3.0/pref and edit the file, cause you are browsing with root previleges (gksu)
