^This. Why would you ever want to shoot CR's with HC? Let your FR-spec guildmate take it instead, he'll make more profit off it than you will.

The idea of specializing your fleet isn't so you can shoot everything, it's so you can shoot some things epically. If you're HC spec and the enemy is CR spec, you're supposed to run away and let a guildmate who's better equipped take it.

Just about every major guild on every server. Using the wrong kind of fleet to pull off a crappy ratio instead of letting a guildmate with the right kind of fleet get a great ratio is stupid and weakens the guild.

Sometimes when you don't have the right fleet, or enough of it, you have to make due.

Do you only play alpha?

In newer servers fleet specialization is mandatory by all major guilds. Balanced fleets require more credits to develop and are easily countered by a combination of specialized fleets for more credits. The idea of building fleet is to take a resource (credits) and invest them in the highest yield (fleet + pew pew). Balanced fleets have lower returns, more risk, and can only attack 1 or 2 more targets. It would almost be better to team with another mate, split derbs, and spend what you would've otherwise spent on balancing on goods (which imo is a terrible idea).

Veteran of all servers but Beta/Ceti. I've seen rainbow fleets rip specialized fleets a new one, and I've also seen it vice-versa. I do not say this is the best guide, nor do you have to follow it. It is based on my experience in combat. If you don't like it, then don't post.

Instead of saying people should add DE/CV to HC fleets, say that they could add DE/CV for those who want to.

Yes, but from the very start I said build/use them at your discretion. Using CV/DE in HC attacks does lower your ratios in the right scenarios unless you're shield-raping FTs.
