Revamp the process of making changes to the game
With the game admins/dev not giving this game any more attention it is time to open source it, and let the community make changes. I am envisioning the following step process:
1. Community Members make the coding changes that they would like to see in the game.
2. Purposed features/coding changes would go up where game players get to vote on rather to test out the idea or not. An idea would need 750 signatures in support.
3. Players would be allowed to test these code changes out on a test server. The test server would last for 1 month, and would let players try out the changes and provide a survey feedback. Each proposed code/feature change would get put into a query based on the ordered received, provided that they got enough signatures.
3. Feedback that gets enough support gets sent to the Admins/Devs. Greater than 60% approval.
4. The Admins/Devs implement the coding changes and make the changes official.
This gets the community involved, gets new features into the game, and still gives the game owners final control over the game, without having to do all of the work.
This will hopefully encourage new players to come to the game, retain existing players, and get old players to return.

Refrain from posting nonsense and *beep* in the feedback section

The potential for abuse in this is extremely high.

For the rest of you, stay on topic and keep the insults in Kepler.

The *individual that mentioned me first* is the one who veered all over the place
Though that may be true, I requested you both to cease.

The abuse that is possible gets checked by the final step of the Admins/Devs. Obviously they review it and approve of the change before implementing it.
Open source software works with allowing the community and other organizations to make changes to the program and certain ones get officially added and others do not. A similar process could work for AE.

I mean, does it really matter that much in a month long server that gets wiped? Except for when they code exploitsZoran wrote:The potential for abuse in this is extremely high.
It worked for Steam and Skyrim, but also the culture of Steam and Skyrim permitted those things to succeed. I've been simming for like ...years now so I can't speak to the efficacy of letting the community do things to that extent, but back in my day....

Eh. Are you talking about Skyrim Special Edition (or whatever it's called) being basically "Skyrim with the Mods Baked in"? That's not really what Cody is suggesting, it'd be closer to what a *lot* of people have requested over the years--features that are common in scripts added to the game itself. Wizard's already done this a few times, e.g. with the Master Production menu.Narth Vader wrote:I mean, does it really matter that much in a month long server that gets wiped? And the main reason it worked for Skyrim is because mods were allowed >_>

Mostly I was just thinking more broadly of the Steam Workshop as a concept.
But also I see what you're saying.
