My guild started 3 days after the server opened and we've got the 8th best averages on the server and we've been catching the averages of 31337 and idea every day, should over take them in the next few days. I will concede that Music's averages are fairly epic (helped by the fact that you had no competition in locking down your galaxies), but I'm still somewhat proud of my own guild's.

Don't be jealous, just 'cause we can bring it in the forums as well as in-game. ;)

True story. I thought it was actually because I had originally been a member of the big bad teens alliance?

Nebulocity wrote:Alright dammit, you went and made me do it like I don't have enough preposterously trivial internet accounts already...

I just want to make a couple minor points and then I'll leave the rest of yall to beat up on it for a few more painfully hard to read pages

1-The concept of OSHI 'doing it for the lulz' is lost on me. If you snickered to one another over your cleverness, it didnt make SOAB a lick of difference. We went about our business the same as we would have otherwise. I'm sure you giggle wildly when you trick-or-treat too. We're not mad, actually we're quite entertained by the way OSHI pulled a 'Farva' and put soap in our coffee (vague movie reference)

2-Some people have accused me of being naive for thinking I could play an internet video game and not become immersed in a world of corrupted idealism where the point of the game becomes subversion rather than skill. I guess Im just old fashioned that way, but I play video games to get away from the non-stop compromise and politics that infests the 'real world'. I expected more from the players who believe themselves to be 'elite', but got the same result as always, so I guess the point about me being naive is valid. Once again it proves my point that the only games where skill is king do not involve keyboards, as the drama queens and megalomaniacs will always find a way to ruin a good internet game.

3-At the risk of sounding hypocritical, talk is still cheap. I came to fight, and it looks like Im gonna get to do some, so at least that worked out well. We'll resolve the majority of the BS when the fleets find each other.

4-Having spammed this thread enough for one day, I'll leave it to the rest of you to dissect this topic. This is the part where true colors will show, I'm looking forward to it :)

Word to your mother,
Nebula

I think it's a matter of different perspectives more than anything. I play AE as a social game more than as a game of skill or mathematics or anything else.

Sure, knowledge and activity are amongst the most significant factors in building up a great account. A couple of servers back, I played the rankings game, doing whatever I could to make my account better than everyone else's. But I'm bored of the rankings game nowadays; it gets repetitive after a while.

I also played the guild leading game for some time, which was a wholly different and also exciting experience. But like I said in my first post, I found it too tiring to play that game for long. Running a guild felt more like a job than a hobby to me, so I stopped doing it.

The main reason I'm still in AE is for the socialisation and the communication - AE being the medium for the socialisation. I like to do random crap with my friends, chat with allies and enemies alike, and post fancy WoTs on the forums. And the socialisation was 2/3rds of the reason why I even started up on Ixion. (The other 1/3rd was the thrill of doing something new - starting up in the galaxies claimed by a larger pre-planned guild and fighting them for control. Like I said, merely playing AE the tried-and-true way is starting to get boring for me.)

So it may well be that our trolling had no real "effect" on SOAB, or the main WL team (most of whom didn't know about the merger until it happened), or anyone else on this server. But it gave us 4 days of fun - fun not in the conventional AE sense of "building a fleet and blowing it up for profit", but in the wider sense of "a bunch of friends messed around in an online spreadsheet game and had a damn good time". And that is enough for me. I don't play AE to ruin other people's gaming experience; I play so that I and my friends can have an enjoyable experience. If the former turns out to be a side effect of the latter, then I'm sorry, but I'm not here to satisfy everyone >.<

Khaosincarnate wrote:So SOAB wasn't scared huh. hey Treason Do you still have that screen shot of the SOAB boards, when they found out who we were.

I probably still have it somewhere; I generally find it tasteless to post other guilds' announcements or board posts on the forums though, and don't do it unless my opponents are stooping just as low :P I mean, we all know everybody has spais in everybody's guilds, but still.

The audacity of your post, flouting several forum rules deserves a +1 if nothing else.
